Getting started
What is Export Product Images?
Export Product Images is a Shopify app that bulk-exports your product images, videos and 3D models, and your Content > Files library, as one ZIP file.
Instead of saving files one by one, you filter your products, choose how files and folders are named (by SKU, barcode, product title and more), check a preview and download the original files. The app only reads your store, so nothing is changed or deleted.
How do I bulk download all product images from Shopify?
Install Export Product Images, open Export product files, keep Include images ticked and press Preview files, then press Export files and download the ZIP when the job finishes.
Shopify itself has no bulk download button, and its product CSV export only holds image links. The app downloads the original files for you, in the background, and emails you when the ZIP is ready.
How do I get started?
- Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
- Open Export product files and, if you want videos or 3D models, tick Include videos or Include 3D models.
- Add filters if you need them (status, vendor, collection, creation date), then press Preview files.
- Choose the file name format and folder name format, check the list, then press Export files.
- Download the ZIP from the job page or from the email you receive.
The getting started guide walks through each screen.
Does the app change anything in my store?
No. The app only has permission to read your products, files and metaobjects, so it cannot edit or delete anything.
Removing a file in the preview only leaves it out of that export. The file stays in your store.
What you can export
Which files can I export from Shopify?
From products you can export images, videos and 3D models. From Content > Files you can export images, videos, 3D models and other files such as PDFs.
Images are included by default in a product export. Videos and 3D models are opt-in checkboxes, so existing exports stay the size you expect.
Do I get the full-size original files?
Yes. The app downloads the original files that Shopify holds, not resized thumbnails or compressed copies.
For videos and 3D models you get the file you uploaded, under its upload name.
Can I export YouTube or Vimeo videos?
No. A YouTube or Vimeo video in Shopify is only a link, so there is no file to download, and the app skips it.
Media that Shopify is still processing has no downloadable file yet and is skipped too. Export again once processing has finished.
Can I back up the Content > Files library?
Yes. Open Export content files to export the files in your Shopify admin's Content > Files section: images, videos, 3D models and other files such as PDFs.
This includes files that no product uses. You can filter by file type, upload date and where a file is used. See the Content > Files guide.
Can I use the export for Amazon or other marketplaces?
Yes, as a source of files. The ZIP holds your original images named by SKU or barcode, which is a convenient starting point for marketplace listings. The App Store lists Amazon under Works with.
The app does not publish to marketplaces itself. It gives you the files.
Choosing what to export
Can I export only some of my products?
Yes. Filter by status (active, draft or archived), vendor, collection and creation date. You can also export only the main product image of each product, or only products with stock.
Type the exact vendor name. Vendor names that contain a comma, like Omega, Swatch, work too.
How do I export product images from one collection or vendor?
Open Export product files, choose the collection or type the vendor name, and press Preview files. Only the files of matching products are listed and exported.
You can combine a collection with a vendor, a status and a creation date range to narrow the export further.
Can I choose which content files to export?
Yes. Filter Content > Files by file type and upload date, and by reference: all files, files used in products, files used by metaobjects (all, or one metaobject type), or files not used anywhere.
Can I check the files before exporting?
Yes. The preview lists every file with its product, SKU, barcode, stock and final file name. Click the X next to a file to leave it out.
Files you remove in the preview do not count toward your plan.
File names and folders
How can I name the exported files?
Product files can keep the original name or be named by SKU, barcode, variant ID, product title or product handle, mostly with the image position added. For example, the SKU_position format names the first image of SKU TSHIRT-BLK-M as TSHIRT-BLK-M_1.jpg.
If a product has no SKU or barcode, its files keep their original names. Content files use the original name or the alt text. The full list is in the file names and folders guide.
Can I export Shopify product images named by SKU?
Yes. Choose SKU_position (TSHIRT-BLK-M_1.jpg, TSHIRT-BLK-M_2.jpg) or SKU as the file name format. The preview shows every final name before you export.
Each image takes the SKU of the variant it is assigned to. Images not assigned to a variant take the SKU of the product's first variant.
Can I sort the files into folders?
Yes. Product files can go in one folder per product, named by product title, handle or ID, in folders named by SKU, or all in one folder. Content files can be grouped by file type or by upload month (YYYY-MM), or kept in one folder.
What happens if two files would have the same name?
The app numbers them so nothing is overwritten, for example name.jpg and name__(2).jpg, and the preview shows a notice.
A file that is attached to several products is exported once per product folder when you use product folders, and once in a single folder.
Exporting and downloading
How long does an export take?
It depends on how many files you export and how large they are. Exports run in the background, so you can close the app and come back later.
The job page shows progress, and you get an email when the export is done. Paid plans have priority in the export queue.
Is there a size limit for an export?
There is no limit on the number of products. One ZIP file can hold up to 160 GB. Your plan sets how many files you can export per month.
How do I download my ZIP file?
When the export finishes, the Download button on the job page becomes active, and the same download link is emailed to your store's email address.
How long does the download link work?
Seven days. After that, start a new export for the same files. The ZIP file itself is deleted automatically after 30 days.
What if a file can't be downloaded?
The app retries, and a download that is interrupted resumes from where it stopped. If a file still fails, the export continues without it, the job log lists the file and the job status shows finished with errors.
Files that could not be exported do not count toward your plan.
Plans and billing
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The free plan lets you export 100 files per month, with every feature and unlimited previews. There is no credit card and no trial period to remember.
How much does Export Product Images cost?
It is free for 100 files per month. Paid plans are Starter at $29 (1,000 files per month), Advanced at $69 (10,000 files per month) and Premium at $99 (unlimited files). Shopify bills paid plans every 30 days.
Every plan includes every feature. Paid plans add priority in the export queue.
What counts as one file?
Every file added to a ZIP file counts as one: an image, a video, a 3D model or a content file. Exporting the same file again counts again.
Previews, files you remove in the preview and downloads that failed do not count. Your balance resets every month.
What happens when I reach my limit?
The export stops at the limit, and the ZIP contains the files exported up to that point. Upgrade on the Plans page to continue, or wait for your monthly reset.
Can I change or cancel my plan?
Yes, any time on the Plans page. If you move from a paid plan to the free plan, the paid plan stays active until the end of the current billing period.
Help and security
How do I contact support?
Use the live chat in the bottom right corner of the app, or email support@craftshift.com. Our team is in Europe (Central European Time) and answers every message.
Can I upload the exported images back into Shopify?
Yes, with our sister app Smart Bulk Image Upload. Export your files here, edit or rename them, then upload them back and match them to products by SKU, barcode or title.
The two apps list each other under Works with on the Shopify App Store. Read the export and re-upload guide.
What permissions does the app need?
Read access to your products, files and metaobjects, plus your store owner and staff details as listed on the App Store. It does not write to your store.
If the Content > Files export asks for new permissions the first time you open it, approve them in the Shopify admin.
